How to Migrate Your WordPress Site
Use this guide when you want to move a generated 1ClickWebsite WordPress site to another WordPress hosting account.
What this guide covers
- Preparing the destination WordPress site
- Using Migrate Guru to move the site
- Checking the migrated site after the move
- Common follow-up steps after migration
Before you start
You should have WordPress admin access for the site you are moving and admin access for the destination WordPress install.
It is also a good idea to take a backup before starting any migration. If your domain is already live, plan the DNS switch carefully so the site does not point to the new host until the migrated site is ready.
How to migrate the site
- Create or open the destination WordPress install on the new host.
- Install the Migrate Guru plugin where needed for the migration flow.
- Follow the Migrate Guru prompts to connect the source and destination sites.
- Start the migration and wait for it to finish.
- Open the migrated site and check key pages, images, forms, menus, and links.
- Update DNS only after the migrated site looks correct.
After migration
If the site was moved to a new domain or host, check that WordPress URLs, permalinks, SSL, forms, and email sending are working correctly.
If you use the Website Agent on the migrated site, make sure the migrated site is connected correctly before asking the agent to make edits.
Notes
Migration is a WordPress-level process, so the exact screens can vary depending on the destination host.
If the migration fails, the migrated site is broken, or DNS is not pointing correctly, contact support or your hosting provider so the specific site setup can be reviewed.
